Can't catch this.
Today's fishing adventure was a total bust. We traveled out about five miles off shore and proceeded to look for Cobia, King fish, and Triple Tail. We saw 1 Cobia, 5 King Fish, and 1 Triple Tail. None of them wanted to come home and be eaten. What the hell?!?!?. 'Effin fish. Actually there were soooooo many schools of bait fish all around us all day we knew it was going to be tough just to get one to bite. It was like being a chef at an all you can eat buffet and Calista Flockhart walks in and she won't take a bite of the one thing that you prepared on the buffet.
Bad analogy? Perhaps. Am I sunburned in funny places? Yup.
Tomorrow, I'm going to take a shot at the dawn bite. The weather kicked up so much weed earlier this week that tomorrow will be the best day for surf fishing so far. Total fish count for the week; 2 catfish that got through back and 1 whiting that I fed to a heron. The heron was very hungry because he swallowed the fish in one gulp. He choked on his fish and died on the beach.
In the "Get your read on section" of the vacation. I have read two Dan Brown books; Digital Fortress and Deception Point. These two books have secured my theory that Dan Brown is not a very good author, but he does fantastic research. Bad plot, bad writing, not that I could do anything better, but his research and explaining of things that we don't know about is fantastic. Neither is better than The DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons, but good enough for vacation fodder. I'm also halfway through, Douglas Adams' The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I'll finish that tomorrow and then it'll be back to Barnes and Nobles to pick up Life, the Universe and Everything.
In sad animal news, Eddie, the dog from Frazier died the other day.
In better news, the trailer for Spidey three is up. Because I'm on dial up, I haven't watched it yet.

The weather on Florida is not being conducive to catching mass quantities of fish. So, I'm sitting in a Barnes and Noble using their very fast internet having a very good time catching up on all the news that I've missed over the past few days of travel. The good news is that the weather is supposed to substantially improve tomorrow and for the next few days. The bad news is what is playing over the speaker system in Barnes and Nobles.
The intro brass lick to Fly me to the Moon started playing. It sounded just like the Sinatra's intro. Great! This should be fun, web surfing to Sinatra. Then the vocals came into the mix. No, No, No, No, No, NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! NOT FUCKING MICHAEL BOLTON!!!!
From what I can hear, it's an entire album of Bolton doing karaoke over Frank's original charts. Sacrilege.
There is much wrong with the world we live in; famine, war, injustice, democrats, republicans; do we really need an entire album of Bolton covering Sinatra. You wanna win the war in Iraq? Air drop 20,000 copies of this piece of shit over Iraqi insurgents. They'll lay down their arms, cover their ears, and come out screaming, "No mas, No mas!!!" Yes, the Iraqi insurgents speak Spanish, you didn't know that did you?
And for your ammusement, go kill five minutes by playing over at Googlefight.

The Skirts show was very very good. Dave and I played well. It amazes me how many people like these four men and their music. About 400 people stood in the fucking rain to listen to the concert tonight. Really amazing if you ask me.
The Funkle show was also very well received. I don't know why we had such a good crowd, but it was and that's that.
Before all of the musical festivities tonight, I stopped by the Village Idiot to make sure that the bartenders had been taken care from last weekend's alumni party. They sure did. Everyone who worked that party went home very happy. Thanks to all of you that shared a little something extra with the bar staff.
After talking to the staff and owner I learned that out shindig broke every sales record for the upstairs bar. Congrats kids.

Do this
Late yesterday afternoon I got a call from my oldest friend, Gondee. By oldest friend I don't mean that the reproductive parts of his anatomy don't work anymore. I mean that I have known him since we were in the second grade and if our math last night was correct that mean s 21 years. He is also a Braves season ticket holder and that's why he was calling. An invite to last night's game.
When we got to the stadium we went straight to the Chop house to grab a few Red Bricks and watch the game. There is something about paying six dollars and fifty cents for a beer that makes my asshole pucker, but I forked over the cash slurped down more ale than I care to comment about. We ended up watching the first five innings from the Chop House then we got hungry.
Enjoying a game with a season ticket holder is a very good way to enjoy the game. Mainly because he knows where the best and freshest hotdog stands are located. I got a couple of brats that were grilled and covered with sauteed onions and peppers. And of course another beer.
Gondee's season tickets are in the upper deck and looking online at the Braves season ticket prices I figured that each seat for the season cost two hundred and fifty dollars. There are 81 home games a year. That equates to three dollars per seat per game. If you think of it that way, that's a hell of a deal. Especially considering that he never sits there. The tickets are basically used as a way to get into the park. From there it's just kind of a free for all.
With brats and beers in hand we moved to the third base side about 40 rows back from the action and enjoyed the final four innings.
Afterwards we hit this great bar 80 yards from his house that has "Elliott" in the name but for the life of me I can't remember the full title. It's small and quiet. They have red, white, and blue Chimay available for consumption along with a limited menu of what looked like very tasty, freshly made sandwiches and sides. I met and chatted with the owner for a few minutes about the massive amount of work he did in fixing up the bar and his upstairs apartment. According to him and his brother, that looks eerily similar to Elvis Costello, they worked 16 hours a day for 18 months getting this building up to code and a bar and kitchen built in it. The before and after pictures are amazing.
Tonight will be just as exciting except the opposite. I'm doing laundry and packing for Athfest where I'm going to cram playing two shows into one Friday night. First, play with Modern Skirts as they headline the main stage at 9 PM. Then with Funkle Ester at midnight at Wild Wing. Can I just remind you that I fucking hate playing the Wild Wing. But it's a whatever. The Friday night of Athfest will be followed immediately by a week long vacation in Florida where I will hopefully do nothing but eat, drink, fish a lot, read a book or two, and sleep.

During the overly shitty commute into work this morning, I had the radio was tuned to Dave FM. Atlanta morning radio was really gone down the toilet in the past few months, so I normally find myself punching buttons trying to find the least obtrusive talk radio or the least foul sounding music. This morning that happened to be Dave FM.
Going into commercial the DJ said that he had $150 in itunes to give away to the next caller. I figured why not, give it a shot. Three ringy-dingys later, I was speaking with the producer. I politely asked for the $150 in itunes and was immediately declared the winner, the champion of calling in for useful free radio stuff and overall ruler of everything I see.
Not a bad way to start my Tuesday.

Garage Band has got to be one of the best programs I've ever used and I'm barely scratching the surface of its capabilities. Easy to use and easy to learn. Thank you Apple.
Steven Colbert recently interviewed Georgia Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (R-8th District). The interview was so good that devilducky.com posted it here.

You know it was a party was a raging success when you are sorting and naming the digital photos from said party and every other photo has to be named *Name*humping*name*.jpeg, *Name*humping*name*2.jpeg, and *name*gettingreadytohump*name*.jpeg, And that happened at the bar and around 10 PM as part of the tribute to Gunner. Yes, there was a lot of humping and as everyone knows, humping makes for a good party.
So yes, the send off for Gunner/Alumni party went very well. We paid our respects to Gunner, we doubled the amount of scholarship money raised from last year, and a large group of people got to experience an excellent time. We will be doing this again next year around the same time so go ahead and mark your calenders.

Coulter this
I took three things away from the Ann Coulter and George Carlin visit on last night's "Tonight Show". One, George Carlin, in all of his ranting and raving against, well, everything, is more mature than I think he gets credit for. Two, Ann Coulter despite being an uber right winger is hot. And three, and we already knew this, but Jay Leno, aka Skunkhead, can screw up an interview faster than a Kennedy can go through rehab.
Carlin came out first and did a few minutes of standup based around word play and the English language. Funny, but nothing that made you think anything. He then sat on the couch and chatted it up with Jay. There was no real interview here, just a conversation between friends. They hit on movie "Cars" which Carlin has a role in and they showed a clip. There was nothing notable about this segment.
Commercial break and then Coulter was introduced. Carlin moved down on the couch and said as he made room for her; "I never thought when Ann Coulter came out, I'd have to move to the right." It was cute and it got a good chuckle from everyone. That was the last word Carlin spoke. For the rest of the show, he sat patiently and listened as Ann and Skunkhead spoke. He shows a great deal of restrain as you could tell there where a few times where he wanted to jump in but he bit his tongue.
Because Skunkhead is not a lousy interviewer, the Coulter portion sucked. He tried to act like Letterman or Stewart and ask harder questions. But immediately after asking the tougher question, he would back off at the first sign conflict. Ann ran him where she wanted to when she wanted to. Watching Jay get beat up was amusing. The interview? Not so much.
I knew not to get my hopes up for this and I'm glad I didn't. Overall, it wasn't worth skipping Letterman for.
Here's a link where you can watch the interview. Scroll about a fifth of the way down and press play.

This...........
The media is making a big deal out of George Carlin and Ann Coulter being on The Tonight Show at the same time. Bull shit I say. If they were on the Daily Show or Letterman together then it might be something. But because Jay Leno can't interview his way out of an imaginary bag, I suspect that it will suck.
Did you hear about the Bush press conference yesterday in the Rose garden? Bush gave a reporter flack for interviewing him while wearing sunglasses. The reporter took it in stride but kept the glasses on. Turns out that the reporter has a degenerative eye disease and is legally blind. I don't care if you're Blue, Red, Purple, of Green, that is funny funny stuff. You can watch it either in Quicktime or WMP.

Three themes down, one more to go. As part of my preparation for the Vegas gig, I'm putting together a bunch of playlists for the theme parties that our convention attendees will be attending.
Today's theme is "Carnival". Don't think cotton candy and snow cones. Instead think of scantily dressed women with large head pieces. Go here if you need some inspiration. As opposed to the previous themes, the music for this party doesn't need to be recognizable, it just needs to set the mood of a Latin Mardi Gras.
Thanks again for the comments and emails. They have really helped.

More Music Help
Two themes down, two to go.
As part of my preparation for the Vegas gig, I'm putting together a bunch of playlists for the theme parties that our convention attendees will be attending. Today's theme is "Graduation".(By the way, I don't come up with the themes, I just have to make them work.) I got "Pomp and Circumstance" Sure did. Thought of that one all by myself.
Additionally, I thought about making this party just like a real graduation ceremony and just looping "Pomp and Circumstance" over and over and over and over again for an hour and a half, but even I'm not that mean.
So email or comment away. Any non-obscure songs that fit into that theme are welcome. Genres don't matter.

Friday after work was spent with friends at the Sweetwater brewery. Three times a week, Sweetwater opens its doors for a tasting and tour. For 6 American dollars you get a glass and 6 multicolored tickets that are exchanged for beer. Yummy yummy beer. Beer that makes me happy. I didn't quite make it to actually taking a tour of the brewery, I'll save that for next time. Maybe.
The tasting shut down at 7:30 and feeling the effects of 6 beers and a long work week, I bailed and headed to the house. After letting let the dog out, I began my date with Sarah Silverman. Besides being hot she is brilliant and hilarious. Her movie, "Jesus is Magic" is very good. There are some slower parts but the over the top moments more than make up for any boredom.
Saturday during the day I did nothing and it was everything I hoped it would be. I watched Georgia get whooped by South Carolina and followed that up with a nap. Top that. About ten
PM boredom set in and it was out to Keith and Rob's neck of the woods. Josh and Bryan were in town and it was of course very good to see them. 12 pitchers of Summer Hummer later, we adjourned back to Rob and Keith's for more beer and laughs. We all crashed about 4:30.
Today has brought more of the same. Watching UGA baseball, (USC is heading 2 to nada in the bottom of the first) and couch surfing. I love the weekend. I love my job too, but I so live for the weekend. USC just scored again. Jesus.
Don't forget that the RCB alum/Gunner's good-bye shindig is this Friday night. I'm very surprised and stoked at the number of people that will be in attendance. Good times ahead.

On Wednesday we dealt with Happy Birthday as the theme and I think I'm set. Big thanks to Gunner, Kevin, and those who sent emails. We're not done and it's going to get much much harder. The second theme I'm stuck on that I need music for is "Get Well Soon/Hospital". Other than the theme songs to ER, General Hospital, and MASH, I got nothing and again I need about 45 minutes worth of music. So please comment away.

Jesus is Magic has been rented and is currently sitting next to the DVD player waiting for me to come home and laugh at it. Review coming next week, but the online buzz has been very good and the trailer which you can view at the website linked above is also very funny.
A couple of entertainment things of mild interest. Work has started on a big screen version of 24.
Damn you Optimus!!! A site for the live action Transformers movie is up. I'm not sure how I feel about this movie. Part of me thinks; "ppppbbbttthhhh" and part of me thinks; "That is 'effin sweet." There's a rumor going around about Megatron and a full frontal scene. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
And finally, the missing piece of my wardrobe has been found. Sandals with a built in bottle opener. I'm size 10 and a half.

Quasi-roast this
On Friday June 16th, 2006; from 8:00 PM until whenever, there will be a gathering upstairs at The Village Idiot (formally Rum Runners) on Clayton Street in Athens, GA and everyone is invited.
This gathering will serve three purposes.
1) For old Athenians to reconnect and enjoy a pleasant night in Athens without running around trying to cram in multiple tailgates, a football game, a gig or a concert.
2) To raise funds for the RCB. There is no cover charge but donations will be welcome and every penny will go to the Roger L. Dancz scholarship fund. (This is not sponsored by the university or any related organization).
3) To have a fantastic send off for Tim "Gunner" Smith, a dear friend, former Redcoat Band Graduate Assistant (and husband of Redcoat alum Leigh Burwell Smith) and recent masters degree recipient in conducting. He will be moving to Vermont in July to begin his new job.
If you are searching for a hotel, there are still a few rooms left at the Game Day Condos and there are a ton available at the downtown Holiday Inn.
I do hope you will consider attending if you can. It will be a fun evening as we pretend to relive our college years, raise some money for a good cause, and honor a friend on whom we soon won't be able to lay eyes as often as we would like. If you haven't had the pleasure of knowing Tim, I still think you would have a wonderful time with old friends.
If you can't attend please help us by forwarding this information to others.

Help this
I've been doing a little bit of work here and there for the upcoming Vegas trip and I'm stuck.
I need songs that deal with Birthdays.
Here's what I have so far.
Happy Birthday (duh)
When I'm 64
You say it's your birthday
I need more. Lots more, about 45 minutes more.
Help.
FYI this is part one of a four day challenge. Rules; The songs need to be recognizable and not obscure. But extra credit will be given for creativeness. For instance, last year I threw in the Great Pumpkin Waltz for a Halloween show just to see if anyone would get it.

I'm tired. That's not accurate enough. I feel run the hell over.
I left work a little bit early today to wind my way to Watkinsville to perform with Funkle Ester. This is the third or fourth year in a row we have been asked to be a part of a concert series at Ashford Manor. Today also marks the first time that the weather cooperated with us. It wasn't unbearably hot, the humidity was at a tolerable level and there was no chance of rain. This encouraged a very crowd to attend thus giving us a nice payday in return.
But getting home after driving an hour and a half to the venue, then setting up, a sound check, a show followed by an hour and a half ride home just to get up in a few hours to go back to work is not the ideal way to start your work week. By the way with all of the hours logged in the car today, the ipod remains the single greatest purchase ever made.

FYI...
Today is Doughnut day. Go to your local Krispy Kreme location and they will hand you a free doughnut of your choice.

I don't have much on tap for the weekend. Mowing the yard is high on the to-do list. I need a new belt and dress shoes. Both are falling apart rapidly. I think a trip to T.J. Maxxxxx is in order. Other than that, nada. I'm still getting used to having the same two days off a week that everyone else has. Very strange.
Sunday brings a church gig and then that afternoon, I'll be heading down to the Virginia-Highlands' Summerfest to watch Modern Skirts. They go on at 3 sharp for anyone interested.
