If there is a god and I'm 99% sure there isn't, she has a fucking hysterical sense of humor. The reproduction of humans is the single handed strangest thing I have ever been a part of.

Georgia Girl's blog is private for work reasons but below are excerpts from her version of the birthing process. I'm posting this because 1) I'm very proud of her and 2) It's one of the few things posted on the internet where I'm not a complete idiotic jackass.

My comments are in parentheses and my version will come in a few days.

At 6am ish (Thursday) they packed me and my stuff up and rolled me down the hall to Labor and Delivery. I tried to calm down and enjoy the knowledge that the sweet, heavenly epidural would soon be mine.

Dr. Lee came by to remove the 2nd dose of Cervadil and said I was at 4cm so we could do the epidural and start Pitocin. Nearly immediately the anesthesiologist came in with his fancy cart and big needles. I was having regular contractions at this point and Russ held my hand and talked to me very calmly while they gave me the shot. This, for the record, was gravy. I don't think it hurt one bit. Unfortunately, it didn't make the contractions stop hurting one bit either!

Dr Fisch came in next and checked me - it had been about 30 minutes since Dr Lee's exam. I was utterly and completely shocked to hear her say - "You're complete, 10 cm, call the nursery". Seriously, 10 freaking cm, no wonder the contractions were killing me!!

By now they realized the epidural wasn't working and called the anesthesiologist back in to try again. I endured at least one contraction, possibly two, while sitting up waiting on the second shot. It's hard to sit still and breath through it but according to L&D nurse Anita, who I LOVED, I did it very well, thank you very much! (Yes, she did)

Unfortunately, shot #2 didn't take either! And the urge to push, which feels scarily like the urge to have a HUGE bowel movement in the middle of the worst menstrual cramps EVAR, was not going to go away without a baby… So I pushed.

I pushed 9 times I think. (Yes, this is correct) 3 contractions, 3 pushes each. Someone asked tonight if I cried when she was born. In hindsight, that would have been a very appropriate response and one I'm surprised I didn't have given my overly emotional state lately. But honestly, I think I was just too damn shocked. Shocked firstly that a baby had just come flying through my vagina, secondly, and possibly more so… because they said it's a GIRL!!!

Everything past this is a bit of a blur. I lost a fair amount of blood during the delivery, not enough the call it hemorrhaging, but enough that I'm significantly paler than normal and that the doctor wants me to take iron supplements when I get home. They ended up giving me Pitocin after Tess was born to try to get the placenta out and something else to try to stop the bleeding, twice. I think Dr Fisch might have been a little concerned with the blood since everything was moving in fast forward.

Russ got to hold her almost immediately and he watched them wash her and weigh her etc. It probably took 30 minutes before I got to hold her and see her up close. But I that's okay because the awesome nurses were doing what needed to be done for me and her both.

I also got to hear Anita, the super nurse, tell the nurse who was taking over for her how awesome I was and that I'd really done it naturally. Hooray for not wussing out!!

So yep, I'm proud of myself. But you know who I'm even more proud of? Russ. My God was he awesome during delivery, he cheered me on and held my leg and watched everything like a hawk. Neither one of us, Tess or me, needed anyone else to watch out for us nor will we ever. Russ's Papa Bear role came out today and I don't imagine it'll ever go away.

Yes, I'm very proud of Georgia Girl and thrilled that Tess is here.
